Change is Not a Four Letter Word
Most people are running from it as fast as possible, while a few seem to be drawn to it. For the majority attempting to remove themselves from the fall out, you can smell fear in the air.
The deal is, everyone reading this is in the business of making change. If you think about it for a minute, we are all working on changing something. We might be trying to improve a process to solve a problem, increase sales or install a new piece of software. Moving forward and improving things is really all about making a change no matter what word you put on it.
So, if you are in the group that hisses at the suggestion of making a change, it’s time for you to look at what you are doing and cope a new attitude. (I avoided saying you need to change your attitude.)
On the other hand, what if I told you that your reaction is perfectly natural and you should expect a certain amount of anxiety when it comes to making a change?
You’d probably think I was talking out of both sides of my mouth.
- We make change all the time, so get used to it and embrace as part of life and business.
- The reason why you and others are so uncomfortable with change sometimes is because you experience “Transition”. Transition is your emotional reaction to change and with it is a mixed cocktail of conflicting emotions. BUT, it always happens and is to be expected.
As a Leader it’s important for you to know the mechanics of successful change and transition management. This knowledge is the difference between being a “place-holder” Leader and differentiating you as an outstanding leader.
