Are You Guilty of De-prioritizing your Network?

If the needle on the personality scale leans a little toward “Introvert” like mine does, I can almost guarantee you are probably in the camp of people that ignores all but a handful of people you know.  You might have fond thoughts of these other people but that’s about as far as it goes.  The fondness you feel doesn’t translate into any meaningful action.

On a day-to-day basis, lacking contact doesn’t really impact you.  That makes finding the motivation to do something with those great people kind of a low priority doesn’t it?

I’d like for you to think about your Network as an investment.  As with all investments, you put your money in for the day you want to pull money out.  And, you probably want your investment to grow while it’s there.  The same is true for your Network.

Your Network is an investment in the future.  You never know what you might need support for tomorrow or next year.  The deal is, you can’t simply ignore people until you need their help.  It’s an investment you need to make ongoing investments in before the time when you need them the most.  It’s called reciprocity and without the ongoing deposits into the relationship bank account, all you have is an acquaintance.  No mutual support.

Your Network is and will always be critical to your success and part of having a Network is maintaining contact.  You can always find time.
