Understanding the underlying cause of why you’re feeling fear over a specific object or situation will help you to rationalize it in a more objective way.

When you’re experiencing fear, think to yourself what would happen if you followed your fear to the end. If you’re fearful of visiting a new place, begin to think what would happen if you actually visited a new place. You would probably have fun, see new sights, meet new people, and see a new part of the world. Your fears keep you from rationalizing and seeing your thoughts to the end. If you actually follow through with your thoughts you’d find that there isn’t anything to be concerned about.

Deep breathing has the ability to cut through the fear because it helps to calm your nervous system and mind as you concentrate on it. While deep breathing, count down from 100 in your mind as this will help you to focus on something and stay calmer for longer.

In some cases, accepting the fear can help you to feel more in control and calm about it. Instead of acting in a fearful state about a situation, recognize that it is a trigger for you and that yes you are going to be fearful of this situation. Accepting the fear allows you to watch it in a different way and helps to you realize that it’s insignificant to what is going on in the world. Fear acceptance is a great way to overcome fear and to realize it’s not as frightening as it feels.

  1. Talking To Someone

If you feel your fear is too strong to overcome on your own, one great way to help improve your chances of overcoming it is by talking to someone. Whether it’s someone in your family or a professional physician, talking helps to ease your fears and frees up your mind. The more you talk about it the more chances you have of letting it go. Talking stops your fears from continuously playing in a loop in your mind. When you continue to break this ongoing loop of fearful thoughts you’ll begin to find that your fears will start to fade away and the things that you once were fearful about aren’t so bad anymore.


Fear is a normal response to something that you feel uncomfortable about or is unknown to you. When it comes to overcoming your fears, it does take some time, energy and patience in order to fully accept and control the fear.
